Climate Change Dissonance: Simultaneously trying to hold the two contradictory facts that climate change is real and we must act now and act vigorously and the fact that an individual's capacity for action is limited. The first fact implies an urgency that everything must be done now. The second fact dictates that significant change will take place over years and an individual's response must be sustainable.
CO2_e: Carbon Dioxide equivalent. Many different gases warm the atmosphere. Since carbon dioxide is the biggest contributor to the warming of our planet, the global warming potential (GWP) of these other gases are measured as an equivalent amount of CO2. For example methane is a much more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 and so the GWP of the release of 1 ton of methane into the atmosphere the same as 30 tons of CO2. We state this fact as 1 ton of methane has a GWP of 30 tons CO2_e.
Eco-Anxiety: Extreme worry about current and future harm to the environment caused by human activity and climate change.
Radiative Forcing: Atmospheric warming caused by effects other than the release of greenhouse gasses during combustion. One example: additional cloud coverage caused by aircraft contrails.
Regional Jet: A jet-powered regional airliner with fewer than 100 seats. A regional jet will typically have only 3 or 4 seats across in a row of seats.
